Thame Kickboxing Club

The South East Academy is well known on the tournament’s scene. Students who are interested in competing in tournaments are encouraged, but we do respect the wishes of students that do not wish to compete. SE Academy of Martial Arts has produced two World Champions, and multiple European and Domestic champions.

The Classes are structured in a manner to build the ability and technique at a speed that is suitable for the individual. Instructors are taught to warm up all students thoroughly before commencing any techniques to prevent pulled muscles and injury. Time is spent on stretching muscles of the body to enable students to perform dynamic movements safely and effectively, and various exercises are used for full body conditioning to improve stamina, strength and co-ordination. Strike shields, focus pads, protective equipment and skipping ropes are regularly used in training sessions.

When students join the South East Academy, membership is for a life time. The price includes our popular black & red top quality club suit, and entitles students to train at any of the South East Academy classes, provided fees are up to date.

Included in the start up fee is a licence which is renewable annually. This enables the students to take recognisable grades and provides insurance which covers each student in the unlikely event that any harm may be caused to or by them.

Sparring

Sparring is a way of practising the moves and techniques involved in a combat sport in a safe and controlled setting. Working with a sparring partner, you practise attacking and defensive moves in one-on-one combat, but usually at a lower level of intensity than in competition, so you do not land heavy blows.

This is a vital part of training in martial arts, as it enables you to improve your technique and quicken your reflexes, but without the same risk of injury that occurs in the competition ring, so you can train safely. Additional protective gear may also be worn.

Sparring is an invaluable way to gain experience in your chosen martial art. It enables you to try out your technique on an opponent without using full force, away from the pressure of competition. As you are supervised in a gym setting while sparring, it gives you the opportunity to find out how much you have learned and where you are going wrong, so you can improve your technique as you go.

Sparring is the ideal way to try out different combinations of moves you have learned in class, so you can find out what is effective and what isn’t when you are faced with an opponent. You learn to react more spontaneously, but in a controlled way, as the various techniques you have learned automatically kick in, enabling you to respond better to different situations and opponents.

Self Defense

In our classes we teach our students how to protect themselves in a variety of situations such as headlocks, grabs, punches, kicks, grabs from behind, knife attacks, multiple attackers etc.

If a student wants to learn a specific a specific self-defence technique our instructors will take the time to teach this until the student is confidant.
